I’m Back, Baby!

After a loooong hiatus from my relatively short blogging career, I’m back! That’s right, non-existant audience, I have returned to provide my valueless opinion on, well, music in general.

It’s been a good year for music in general. It’s also been a good year for live music, notably in my backyard, Brisbane (Australia).

The festival circuit each year gets longer and longer. This year, it began with a whimper – Sounds of Spring stank up the RNA Showgrounds last month with one of the worst-run festivals I’ve every been to. Seriously, its like the organizers had never been to a festival before. The line-up was the only thing that saved it – a top-shelf list of Aussie talent. But even that wasn’t enough to keep me there until it finished. I walked out mid-The Herd at around 8pm. Things can only get better.

We’ve got the Big Day Out – once again selling out in Sydney and the Gold Coast almost immediately. The line-up isn’t as solid as previous years, but it’s always fun (and very well run, organizers of Sounds of Spring!) V Festival returns with some great headliners (Kaiser Chiefs and Snow Patrol), and Soundwave have secured Nine Inch Nails and Alice In Chains!

If you haven’t seen the new Alice In Chains vocalist, William DuVall, in action, seek him out on Youtube. I was wary of anyone trying to fill Layne Staley’s shoes, but this guy is great!

On top of the rock festivals, there seem to be an influx of dance festivals – Stereosonic last weekend, Global Gathering next weekend, Sunset Sounds, BBQ Breaks, and of course, Summafieldayze.

Its summer time in Australia – lets get our gear off and get the party started!
