Norway produces some excellent tunes, and the hottest city in one of the coldest places on Earth is Bergen
The term Bergen Wave was tossed around by the Norwegian press during the late 1990s and the early 2000s when several local artists gained international breakthroughs, which was uncommon for Norwegian music at that time. Much of this success came from the focus that particularly British music press put on bands such as Röyksopp and Kings of Convenience.
Another Bergen band that has risen to prominence in the past few years is Datarock. Perhaps evidencing Brisbane’s appreciation of Scandi-Pop, the immensely fun duo are returning to Brisbane to play at The Zoo tonight!
Fun fact: Bergen is also known as ‘the dairy capital of Norway’.
