Black Eyed Peas Never Die

The Black Eyed Peaswill.i.am is convinced the album format is dead. Speaking to The Guardian, he noted, “When they stopped puttin’ CD players in cars, that was when I knew it was over. The tradition of gettin’ 15 songs and expectin’ people to hear ‘em how you made ‘em? That’s not it any more.”

Consequently the new BEP release, The E.N.D. (‘Energy Never Dies‘. Out Jun 8), is being pitched as the central point for an ongoing process of creative activity by the band and fans. Listeners will be encouraged to make videos for and remix individual tracks – at least three ‘official’ versions of each already exist, according to the rapper – and the door is being left open for new tracks to be ‘added’ to the core album indefinitely after its release.

will.i.am has likened the package to a software release, with what you purchase being the base for further ‘upgrades’.

In which case, let’s hope The E.N.D. isn’t their Windows Vista.
