I’ll be the first to admit it – this blog has participated in some cheap Guy Sebastian bashing in the past. Not because I don’t like the guy – I think he’s amazingly talented. In fact, I’d go so far as to say he’s got the second best voice in Australia, behind Anna Weatherup. More about that here…
I do it because it gets a cheap laugh, and I have low standards.
That said, I recognize talent when I see it and this morning, while checking Facebook on the couch and watching Rage on ABC1, I saw Guy Sebastian’s new single Like It Like That.
For one brief, sordid moment, I was tempted to write a low-brow joke about liking it a certain way, but the fact is the song is too good and I couldn’t bring myself to do. I feel all weird inside – when did self-censorship become an issue for me!?
From guysebastian.com.au:
Like It Like That is a sample of what we can expect from Guy’s fifth studio album (titled, ‘Like It Like That’), due for release on the 9th October 2009. The new album is a collection of original songs influenced by the experience of The Memphis album, and Guy’s love of classic soul and R&B music. Guy has collaborated with David Ryan Harris and John Mayer who lends his prowess playing guitar and singing backing vocals on a number of tracks.
If you love Guy Sebastian, you’ll be glad to hear I’ll be buying this album when it comes out. If you don’t, you probably haven’t read this far so this may be a moot point, but this album sounds like it will be worth a listen.
There’ve been quite a few ‘I’m ashamed/embarrassed to admit’ liking the new Guy song comments lately. Some of them might even finally buy a concert ticket for February and find out why those of us who’ve done 50-60+ concerts have been spending so much money on him.
Ha. I believe I posted on that blog of yours. Had to go back to see what name I used. Where I got Mararet from I have no idea. Must have been trying to spell Margaret while drunk. Not that my name is Margaret either, but maybe I was too drunk to realise that.
Anyway glad you like the song. It is very infectious as so many people (some reluctantly) are admitting. Hope you enjoy the album too. I think it will be very special. He is a real talent.
hah always thought it was like that, trouble is so many BELIEVE and never check up on Guys songs and albums. I mean saw a tweet a few days back telling him 2 get a haircut! LOL hes had short short hair since 2006, and no fro since 2005.
LOVE his music, LOVE his songs hes awesome. Best live artist he just rips up the stage too
Ha! Good to see you are seeing the light and forgetting about cheap Idol-related jokes, and just supporting one of our greatest voices. I have no doubt after buying Guy’s new album you will be impressed and want to go and explore his back catalogue too. (I highly recommend Closer to the Sun – his pop/rock album myself). Good on you, and props to Guy and his talent, as it is his voice and song writing that wins people over in the end.
